About Brewers

Over 100 years old, Brewers has been a family-run business ever since its doors first opened  in 1904.

Brewers has spent over a century providing expert knowledge, friendly advice and the finest products. As a family business, people are at the heart of everything the business does, whilst continuing to serve local communities across their 195 branches.

Brewers is an incredibly supportive business to work for, taking the time and energy to invest in its people. Colleague wellbeing is a top priority, ensuring support and development opportunities are available throughout the business. The average service of a manager at Brewers is 20 years.

What Brewers needed

Wishing to support all aspects of wellbeing, in 2022 Brewers decided to launch a financial wellbeing programme with an aim to better support their team financially and to boost workplace culture.

Delivering any change in a company over 100 years’ old can be challenging however, especially within a disparate workforce where over a third of employees are without a work email address.

Brewers' solution

An inclusive, accessible solution with a targeted communications plan was key to a successful launch. The roll out of Wagestream became a company-wide initiative, with managers from different teams recruited as ambassadors and engagement improved within teams as a result.

Within just one month of launch:

- Over a quarter of employees had signed up to the app
- 100% of members had used Wagestream for budgeting support, by reviewing their current and predicted earnings
- 32% of members were putting money to one side

For Brewers the launch of Wagestream  proved that technology can foster engagement, reaching a disparate workforce, and that by combining this with personal touchpoints, the close-knit feel needn't be lost. It has been a great leveller for smaller businesses like Brewers.

An award-winning strategy

In 2023 Brewers's financial wellbeing strategy was recognised in two industry awards:

- Brewers WON the 'Best Support of Financial Wellbeing’ category at the Make A Difference Awards.

- The business was also shortlisted in the 'Best Financial Wellbeing Strategy' category at the Employee Benefits Awards.
