Without a doubt, a huge success

They re-invest every penny back into their customers as a not-for-profit organisation. But in the face of significant workforce challenges in 2024, Anchor recognised the need for a revised focus on the wellbeing of their colleagues.

Understanding that every financial life is different, they set out to find a solution that would give their colleagues the tools to manage their money in a way which suits their individual needs. This led them to Wagestream's award-winning financial benefits platform - and the results?

Increasing staff retention and reducing agency spend

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust knew the positive impact that giving their staff flexible access to their pay could have not only on their wellbeing, but also on the performance of the Trust.

They therefore turned to Wagestream to provide this, alongside a holistic financial wellbeing offering. The results?

An increase in staff retention, as well as a reduction in agency spend driven by the fact staff we're more motivated to pick up bank shifts. Our integration with Allocate also meant they were live within a month.

Supporting employees through the cost of living crisis

Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the busiest, largest and most successful teaching NHS foundation trusts in the country, with them overseeing around 6,000 patients every day.

As a result of the new socio-economic landscape, brought about by the cost of living crisis, the Trust knew they needed to review their employee benefits offering. They recognised taking action to offer financial wellbeing support was paramount, with many of their shift workers struggling to navigate their finances during the monthly pay cycle.

Wagestream delivered exactly what the Trust needed - a rounded financial wellbeing toolkit for their employees.

Improved financial stability

They pride themselves on being a 'people's place', and for this to be true, they know they need to invest in systems that help their staff build and grow together. They were therefore keen to look at introducing a platform that could support their employees when it came to managing their finances, and if possible, reduce the stress that can be associated with that.

Solving hospitality recruitment problems

Financial literacy, including understanding income and expenses, is critical. David notes a stigma within the hospitality sector that often views roles as transient rather than career-focused.

San Carlo has taken steps to shift this perception, emphasising employee wellbeing and offering initiatives like Wagestream to support their staff.

Improved shift uptake

In recent years, they have seen a transformation in how they manage staffing and colleague support - thanks in part to initiatives led by Julie Burgess, Head of Nursing.

Traditionally, filling last-minute shifts could be challenging, as agency staff often held the flexibility that NHS workers needed but didn’t always have.
